It has now been a month since I started my new role as an AI/ML Engineer. I feared I might’ve put eggs in 1 basket when I decided to resign from my previous company for this role but man… I am glad I made this decision.

I must admit that this isn’t necessarily because this new role has worked out perfectly for me. For some context, I am currently a part of a few AI projects at FPT Japan, my current company, for some very exciting clients. And I greatly appreciate the fact that I have this freedom and privilege to use + reference + further expand on tools/resources, sources, and knowledge that have a healthy intersection with my rigorous learning & self-study that I’ve undertaken across the last 2 years that helped me transition into the field of machine learning. It’s been great.

But of course, it’s only been 1 month since I started this role; the sample size is pretty limited. So, there’s no way to say for sure what this new role of mine entails just yet. I know we gotta promote ourselves on LinkedIn with these so-called celebratory posts (and yes, I’ve written this same post on LinkedIn as well!) but we all know we’re no idiots here; 1 month is just a month!

I am mostly glad because I made the actual decision to quit my previous role, and that has liberated me quite a bit. I was galaxy braining a lot fearing that quitting a super stable role at a prestigious organization would be a bad decision. This latent cowardice stopping me from going all out towards what I wanted to do meant I more or less wasted some precious time over there. It doesn’t really mean much in the grand scheme of things, sure, since what even is a wrong decision in career anyway? You take a decision, and work hard to make it the right one eventually. I dreaded too much, when all I needed to do was take a chance and navigate that path. So here I am.

I’m sure this role of mine will have loads of bits and turns that I will need to tackle, but I’m quite confident I will learn a lot. In fact, I will say I’m already underway given the access to the tools + resources + people I have here to learn from.

I think I’ve blabbered enough. I wanted to share this update with everyone here since you’ve all seen my journey and (hopefully) my updates. With that being said, dear reader, I hope I can share more good news with you in the future. I’m very excited.

See you soon!

P.S. Let’s catch up over some coffee if you’re in Tokyo and are down! It’s on me :)
